GLORY

Sunday, August 21, 2005

I have had enough of listening to or reading about people who diss Weilian.

To the uninitiated,
He's the blind finalist in Proj Superstar. (not cross eyed, corinne :p)

I know that he's visually handicapped.
I know that he's not everybody's cup of tea cos he has a nasal voice.
I know that he's not as aesthetically pleasing as junyang, who is 1.67m tall.. like can we say EWWWW!?!!
(hey, if some people can have a preference for non-blind singers, I do believe that I have every right to state mine for non-short male singers.. guys have to be 1.7m and above thankiew very much.)

BUT give Weilian a break already.
he's got what it takes, else he wouldn't have made it this far.

and yes... we sympathise,
there's defintely an element of pity,
but wtf.
the judging was totally kelong and the judges were rooting for the other guy even though he sang worse, enunciated the english words like a PRC and went out of pitch.
like, hello?
i read from a reliable source, TODAY, that junyang already has a contract with the botak judge cos he came from that school..but whateverrrrr.

this guy has come so far!
not only does he have to grapple with issues we able people, can't even begin to imagine,
he had to face all the narrow-minded people who want him out of the competition.

Singapore, a gracious society?
I think like in a million years time, perhaps.

impartial judging was non-existent.
and that counted for a fair share of the result.

what does it take to be a star you say...
I'd say not only does it take talent, it takes a helluva lot of luck and perseverance.

My support for WL is not baseless, and not purely because he's blind.
How do I put this?

He is a busker.

In Singapore, we come across buskers of all shapes and sizes.
You have the blind guy at Orchard underpass,
the one without the limbs at Wheelock
and a variety of senior citizens selling tissue while performing in some way.

I've seen him perform twice at Jurong and Clementi Mrt stations.
And to say that he sang well would be a gross understatement.
I actually caved in and gave him two bucks, which was all that I had in my wallet that day.
and if you know me, that is so uncharacteristic cos I don't pause or stop when I'm on my way to somewhere.
I brush aside pesky secondary school kids who ask for donations. (cos I donate somewhere else and I don't appreciate digging for coins or having to stick an ugly circular sticky contraption somewhere on my outfit)

He sang that ou deyang's song...
and he made me LIKE the song.
how is that possible?
i hated that cheesy ass song at first.
but that;s the power of his singing.

listening to his singing inspires me.
it brings hope to a hard cynic like me.

he's gonna win the grand final too, i'm sure.
brian's already bought his EP for me.
Piao already bought one this afternoon.
and we're buying more to give to our friends.

To all the haters who say it's unfair that a blind guy won this competition,
Unfair is when you are born visually handicapped.

He won this fair and square.
DEAL WITH IT.
